Baywatch Bradford (Or…’Be Reet’). Glazed Ceramic. 2025.

Size is variable but approx 43 cm around base x 24 cm high.

Bradford, Yorkshire. UK. 1109 AD.

I didn’t realise you could drown in a puddle until I nearly did. I have a recurring episode of psychosis where I’m walking through boggy land with three small wine amphoras when I got stuck fast. Trying to free myself from the gasping, thick mud, I first made sure the wine was safe and then launched myself out of the sinking mud and headfirst onto a rock.

Luckily there were three kids there either playing or hunting and they pulled my big daft face out of the puddle and set me on a sliver of dry land to recover. While they waited for me to come to they used the thick mud to draw on my face so that when I woke and staggered to a near village I was an absolute laughing stock. Well played.

This piece is inspired by the Baywatch rescue cans shown on the show, the wine amphoras I was carrying and it’s painted and glazed based on how my muddy, battered and graffitied face looked after I’d been rescued.
